JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, and HEIC/HEIF photos exported from iPhone all work. There is no client-side dimension cap — phone photos at 48MP, scanned posters, and oversized product shots upload as-is. The export defaults to PNG with a transparent background; switch to JPEG with a solid colour, or WebP for a smaller file, in the Download dialog. Animated GIFs and multi-page TIFFs are processed as a single still — for video frame extraction, use a desktop tool first and upload the frame you want.

Yes. Use a current mobile browser to choose a photo from the camera roll or camera. The production editor supports touch input and pinch-to-zoom; install-to-home-screen and restoration of recent local work depend on browser support.

Yes — the bulk processor at /bulk-background-remover/ accepts up to 30 images per batch and processes up to two at a time through the same engine as the single-image editor. Download results individually or together as a ZIP. For more than 30 images, start another batch; typical manual browser use has no daily batch quota, though reasonable abuse protections and device limits apply.

No. There is no account, no email gate, no free-trial countdown, and no credit card on file. Land on the page, drop an image, get a transparent cutout, and leave. Settings such as your last-used background colour and the panel layout are remembered in your browser via local storage so a return visit feels familiar, but nothing about you is stored on a server. If you clear site data in your browser, the next visit starts fresh — there is no profile to restore because none exists.

The editor on /upload/ keeps the cutout on a transparent layer and exposes the full layer panel: pick a solid colour, gradient, or stock background; drop in your own photo as a backdrop; add text overlays with custom fonts; apply drop shadows, reflections, outlines, or blur; and resize the canvas to platform-specific presets such as 1:1 for Instagram or 1600×2560 for Amazon. The Magic Brush handles the last few pixels of stray hair or fur with a paint-style erase and restore tool that respects existing edges.

Normal processing keeps the source canvas dimensions, and there is no paid HD gate. On memory-constrained devices, very large or hard-to-decode images may be softened or resized. PNG, JPEG, and WebP exports use the current canvas dimensions.

Fine-detail results vary by image. If the first pass misses hair, fur, or another edge, use Erase or Restore and adjust the brush size. The current production brush does not provide hardness or pressure-sensitive controls.

Low light, blur, and heavy noise can make the cutout less accurate. For best results, use a sharp, well-lit image with clear contrast between the subject and background; inspect the edges and use Erase or Restore where needed.

Use even lighting and a contrasting, non-reflective background when possible. If a halo or stray pixels remain, open Erase or Restore and correct the mask with the brush.

Yes — save the current background, effects stack, and canvas size as a Saved Template in the Templates panel. The bulk processor on /bulk-background-remover/ then applies that template to every image in the queue, so a 50-shot product run exports with the same shadow, the same canvas crop, and the same JPEG quality without manual re-entry. Brand Kits hold your colour palette so the same brand colours appear across every project. Recipes (in beta) extend this to a full one-click state bundle.

PNG supports transparency and is often larger than JPEG. For a smaller file, try WebP, or choose a solid background and export JPEG. The current production editor does not include resize controls, so resize the downloaded result in another editor.

Standard removal uses the online service. Your original, full-resolution image stays on your device, and the service does not retain the processing copy. Private mode runs on-device in compatible browsers after its required assets are available; automatic fallback is conditional, so offline processing is not guaranteed. Analytics and local-browser storage are covered in the Privacy Policy.

The processing service does not retain the image copy used for background removal. Your browser may keep originals and results locally so recent work can be restored, and Microsoft Clarity may retain session replay containing rendered images. See the Privacy Policy for retention and deletion details.

We do not use uploads to train our models. The processing service does not retain the image copy after the request. Microsoft Clarity may capture rendered images in session replay as described in the Privacy Policy; that replay is analytics data, not a training dataset.

We do not require account or payment details, but the service and its processors handle the data described in our Privacy Policy, including device and request data, analytics, session replay, and error telemetry. The policy explains retention, opt-outs, deletion requests, and how to contact us.

Our Terms state that you retain rights to the images you upload and the processed outputs, and that we claim no ownership over your content. You are responsible for having the right to upload and edit the source image. See the Terms of Service for the full conditions.

No. The PNG, JPEG, and WebP exports are clean — no watermark, no corner logo, no embedded credit, no metadata stamp pointing back to removebackgrounds.ai. The only thing in the file is the image data and a standard colour profile. This is a deliberate product commitment: a free background remover that adds a visible mark would be useless for the e-commerce, marketing, and personal-content workflows the tool exists to serve. If you want to add your own logo to the result, the editor supports text and image overlay layers in the Layers panel.

Yes. The terms allow commercial use of cutouts you generate from images you have the right to edit — product photography for your store, marketing assets for paid campaigns, design work for paying clients, social media for a monetized account, and prints sold at a market. There is no separate commercial license to purchase. Reselling or sublicensing access to the service itself is different and is not supported by a public API or reseller plan today; contact support@removebackgrounds.ai before building that kind of product. Not yet. What runs behind this site is built for the website's own uploader and editor, not for outside integration — there is no public API to point your own code at, no API key to issue, and no published rate card. A public API with prepaid credits and real reference documentation is in active development. Write to support@removebackgrounds.ai to join the early-access list and you will hear before it opens. In the meantime, cutouts made through the website are already free to use commercially.

Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Opera, or Samsung Internet on desktop or mobile. Normal processing requires an internet connection, and very large images can exceed browser or device memory.

Yes — the editor targets WCAG 2.1 AA. Every interactive control has a visible focus ring, a descriptive label, and a keyboard equivalent. Sliders accept arrow-key fine adjustment, the layer panel exposes a roving tab index, the canvas has an alt-text region that announces the current selection, and modal dialogs trap focus correctly with Escape returning to the trigger. Reduced-motion preferences are honoured for slide-in animations. If a specific assistive-technology pairing breaks, file a report at /help/ and tag it "accessibility" — these issues are prioritised.

The current production editor does not provide resize presets or custom canvas dimensions. Download the transparent PNG and resize it in an image editor.
